I combine molecular biology skills and bioinformatics that I acquired during my PhD thesis (dealing with promotor characterization of the mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1) and the adipocyte differentiation), and with my bioinformatics experience gained in a first stage in a software company working in an application that matched drug structure with biological function. My bioinformatics background has crystallized in the Laboratoire de Bioinformatique et Génomique Intégratives at the Institut de Génétique et Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC), Strasbourg, lead by Olivier Poch, where I have learned on clustering and integration of transcriptomic data, use of complete genome databases, use of the bioinformatics resources generated in the lab (ClustalW, PipeAlign, Gscope) and comparative genomics. I have developed the peroxisome database PeroxisomeDB, which is accessible on-line since September 2006 on (see the paper) and recently updated with 35 new peroxisomal proteomes (see the paper). A first comparative analysis of the peroxisomal proteome has yielded tools for the unequivocal identification of peroxisomes in silico, recognized the peroxisomal membrane as a purely eukaryotic invention, and proposes a mechanistic peroxisome-ER connection, which suggests a common evolutionary origin for both membranes (see the paper).
